Overview: The 2011 Cadillac Escalade has the capabilities of a full-sized truck-based SUV – and the comfort and style that will impress your friends. Its powerful V8, flamboyant styling and luxurious passenger cabin features seating for up to eight in a roomy cabin. If you want to go green, check out the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. The Escalade is great for people who want comfort, style, power and towing abilities, and also because it looks so great!
Cadillac Escalade Exterior: The Escalade has three exterior styles: The Escalade, which is a four-door SUV; Escalade ESV, which is an extended wheelbase model; and the Escalade EXT, which offers a small truck bed instead of an enclosed cargo area. Several exterior options are available to dress up the Escalade's exterior, including 22-inch chrome wheels direct from the factory.
Cadillac Escalade Interior: The Cadillac Escalade's interior is spacious and plush. The Escalade can seat up to eight people. The standard seating configuration is for seven, with captain's chairs in the front two rows and a three-person bench in the third row. A three-person bench in the second row is a no-cost option for buyers who need room for eight. Leather and heated seats are standard, and cooled seats are optional.
The Cadillac Escalade comes standard with rear park assist, a power lift gate and a remote starter. A three month trial of XM satellite radio is standard, as are independent tri-zone climate controls. Escalade buyers can add an optional DVD-based navigation system.
For audiophiles, the Cadillac Escalade comes standard with a premium Bose stereo with dual play (CD/DVD radio), in-dash six CD changer, 10 speakers, and MP3 capability. Independent rear-seat audio controls with two headphone jacks also come standard. There is also an optional rear seat entertainment system that uses an in-dash DVD player with a roof-mounted 8-inch screen.
Behind the third-row seats is 16.9 cubic feet of cargo space. As rear seats are folded or removed, however cargo space drastically increases. With the third row removed, the Escalade has 60.3 cubic feet of cargo space. With the second row folded, the Escalade has a cavernous 108.9 cubic feet of cargo space.
Buyers who need more room may want to consider the Escalade ESV. In this model, there is 45.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, which is nearly three times as much as the regular Escalade. With the third row removed the ESV has 90 cubic feet of cargo space and with the second row removed, the ESV has 137.4 cubic feet of cargo space.
Cadillac Escalade Performance: The 2011 Cadillac Escalade offers a smooth ride, V8 power and pretty good handling for a large SUV. The Escalade comes standard with a 6.2-liter V8 engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Escalade features cylinder deactivation, a fuel saving technology that shuts down four of the engine’s eight cylinders when they’re not needed (when the Escalade is cruising or idling). The Cadillac Escalade handles well, as the ride is enhanced by a road sensing suspension (standard on all but the base model) that uses a computer to give real-time dampening of bumps and ruts. Though the base Escalade is rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive models are available, and the Escalade ESV comes with all-wheel drive standard. All-wheel drive increases the Escalade's handling abilities, and the extra-long wheel base of the ESV makes for an even smoother ride. Handling is further impacted by optional 22-inch tires and wheels. The Escalade offers plenty of braking power for secure and controlled stops, a major consideration in an SUV this large.
Towing Power: The Escalade can handle pulling heavy loads. A manual shift mode on the transmission allows drivers more control while towing. The Escalade can tow up to 8,300 pounds when properly equipped, which is plenty of power for trailering a boat or camper.
Cadillac Escalade Safety: The 2011 Cadillac Escalade comes standard with four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, and StabiliTrak, GM's stability control system. StabiliTrak uses a computer to detect unsafe conditions, then selectively applies the brakes to individual wheels and uses the throttle to maintain vehicle control. StabiliTrak is coupled with a rollover mitigation system. When that system detects that a rollover is imminent, it deploys the Escalade's standard head curtain side airbags for all three rows of passengers, protecting passengers and preventing them from being thrown from the vehicle. In addition to the side curtain airbags that come standard for all three rows, the Escalade has dual-stage driver and front passenger front airbags with an automatic passenger sensing system. Rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are also standard on all Escalades. A blind-spot warning system is standard on all but base model Escalades.
